Life on and around the yard brought to you by the horses
Black Jack
Hi, I am Black Jack!I am one of the smallest horses who work at ITCH. I don’t count the Shetlands as they are miniature ponies and I am most definitely a horse! I am a pure Dartmoor, a hardy breed with a great temperament. Anyone who knows me would certainly say that’s me!
I lead a very interesting life teaching little people how to ride as well as being a great one for walks and agility games. Nothing much phases me. I love the challenge of obstacles and I enjoy being given the opportunity to work things out. I live out with the cross-country herd; I am the little one in that field, but I still boss them around. My best friends are Ruby, Cherry and Oscar.
Did you know that horses can form deep and lasting friendships? Fiona knows that and always keep us with our friends, which is why we are so happy in our work. Do come and see me when you are next passing.
Skye
Hi, I’m Skye. Did you notice that rhymes? I like things that rhyme, that’s why I am good at dressage, that’s all about rhythm. I am also very clever when it comes to jumping, it really is so much fun and I can show all the boys how to do it. When I am on the yard I like to hide in my stable, whilst still peeping out. You may even wonder where I am. I sometimes pretend that I am a unicorn, it makes the young people very happy; I hate to tell them that unicorns are mythical, and I am only pretending.
My bestest friend (ever) is Warrior, he is so kind and when he is around, I always feel very safe. I was asked to come up with one interesting fact about me! Did you know my passport (we all have passports, but they don’t have pictures) says that I am “blue and white”! What this means is that my skin is a mix of lighter and darker pigment. If you clip me (that’s shave off my coat) you can see that some areas are black and other areas are pinky (that is the white). My coat however is all one colour. If I stand against Warrior (my best buddy) his white patches are a very different colour white to mine. Fiona says different coloured white sounds very strange; you just have to see us to understand. If you want to get to know me, speak to my girl Chloe (did you see what I did there, another rhyme!)
